About Chris Thomas
Welcome to Whole Foods for Healing. My name is Chris Thomas, and my aim is to eat whole foods that will promote healing so that I can reduce or eliminate my current medications, by providing my body with the best nutrition possible. My quest first began in earnest in May of 2014, when, through dieting, and adopting a vegan lifestyle, I was able to lose a substantial amount of weight, and reduce some of my medications for type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. My challenge has always lied in maintaining my weight loss, and I have always been quick to join any bandwagon diet fad and lose weight (at great financial cost at times). I slowly put all the weight back on.
Fast forward to 2016 ... in February, I found myself at my highest weight ever, and on more medications than ever. I was back on insulin twice a day, two oral diabetes medications, three oral medications for high blood pressure, and another one for diabetic neuropathy. None of these were controlling my conditions well, and I was beginning to feel unwell, all the time. I joined a gym, again, hoping that I could jump start a path to wellness, but by November, I was no closer to feeling better.
I became very afraid, and while I pondered what to do, I realized that no other way of eating had allowed me to reduce my medication, and feel so much better as eating a whole food plant based diet had. So I decided to transition to this lifestyle on a permanent basis, as a way to rid myself of medication, and halt the progression of my diabetic neuropathy. I was convinced that this could be achieved by fueling my body with the right foods. The weight loss that was sure to follow would be as a result of this.
I am approaching food in a new way, focusing on eating foods that are nutritionally dense, and as unprocessed as possible. As I share my journey with you, it is my hope that I might encourage others who are seeking, or living a healthier lifestyle, as well those who are suffering from chronic illnesses to wage war, so that they might live their lives to the fullest. Join me as I allow food to be my medicine.
